Member Responsibilities

Because EPCP is a parent participation school, all parents assume a very active role. Parents have preschool responsibilities in the classroom, in the operation of the preschool, and are required to attend meetings and to help with fundraising.

  1. Attend Parent Orientation, Parent-Teacher Training and General Membership Meetings

Parent Orientation provides an overview of the preschool and your responsibilities as a member. Parent-Teacher Training focuses on working in the classroom. General Membership Meetings provide information regarding the operation of the preschool and allow members to work through the preschool’s needs together. Members also sign up for classroom workdays and learn about classroom needs.

Attendance by at least one parent is required. If you are unable to attend a meeting, notify the Secretary before 6:00 PM the night of the meeting. A member who misses for any reason must:

    1. Read over the minutes from the missed meeting.
    2. Arrange classroom workdays with the Class Representative.
    3. For any unexcused absence, a member works two hours of make-up service arranged by the member’s classroom teacher.
  2. Work in your child’s classroom

    • Full Participation Members work in the classroom as follows, although the exact number will vary depending on class enrollment:
      • Two’s Class – Approximately 1 morning per month (eight to nine times per year)
      • Three’s Class – Approximately 1.5 mornings per month (12 to 14 times per year)
      • Four’s Class – Approximately 2 mornings per month (15 to 17 times per year)
    • Limited Participation Members  work in the classroom once during the year
    • Half-Limited Members work once a month in the Three’s and Four’s Classes and once every other month in the Two’s Class.     For more information, refer to the Limited Participation section.

If you are unable to work on a morning you are scheduled, you must arrange for a substitute. Workdays may be traded.   Unless an emergency or extreme situation, failure to arrange for a replacement prior to 8:30 AM will result in a letter of warning from the Board. The second incident will result in a $15 fine. The third incident may result in membership termination.

If you arrive late for your workday, you are expected to make up the time you missed at the end of the day or perform “at home” work for the Teacher.

A parent is allowed six weeks of non-participation at the time of delivery or adoption of a child. The parent is required to make up the missed workdays wither before or after the six weeks leave. During a leave, the other members of the class cover the workdays.

Siblings not enrolled may not accompany a working parent. Exceptions are made for infants and children under two able to stay in a backpack. If you are unable to arrange care for your other children on your workday, ask your Class Representative or Teacher for suggestions or help in finding a solution.

  3. Participate in the Theater Fundraiser

  4. Complete a Toy Cleaning Job

Failure to Fulfill Responsibilities

Since EPCP is a parent participation preschool, each member must fulfill the specific responsibilities outlined above to be eligible for enrollment.   The Teachers and Board will make every effort to work with members to enable them to fulfill their responsibilities. However, a member’s failure to fulfill a responsibility may result in make-up work and/or a monetary fine. A member’s continued inattention and/or lack of cooperation in fulfilling preschool responsibilities may result in membership termination.

Each responsibility is assigned to board members for follow-up. When a member does not fulfill a responsibility, the first course of action is a clarification of duties and negotiation of a mutually satisfying solution. Further actions include work assignments, fines and membership termination.
