Reducing the Risk of Sexual Abuse
Sexual abuse of children is a real issue; it can and does happen. Eugene’s Parent-Child Preschool is a safe place for children. In order to protect the children from the risk of sexual abuse at EPCP, screening, training and supervision are crucial. EPCP has instituted the following policies and procedures to keep everyone involved safe.
Screening
- Teachers are screened through an FBI fingerprint check.
- All members working in the classroom are required to submit information for a criminal background check in the beginning of each school year.
Training
- Teacher, aides and substitutes complete training to identify signs of abuse. Other interested members are welcome to participate. The training may be in the form of a workshop, video and/or written material.
- Parent Orientation and/or Parent-Teacher Training include information and training on classroom procedures designed to ensure the safety of children.
Classroom Procedures
- Classrooms are set up to enhance visibility.
- Teachers circulate through the various rooms often.
- A parent should not be alone with a child other than his/her own.
- If a child needs to change clothes, the parent and child should be visible to the Teacher and/or another parent-teacher.
